OIL STAINS

how to get oil out of clothes
Spot of oil on white cloth by accident cooking

Removal of oil from clothes usually requires hot or warm water due to the room temperature of the oil, which could be solid or semi-solid and also depending on the fabric. Polyester, a synthetic fiber, is usually challenging to treat because oil and grease attract it the most. With the popularity of synthetic fiber in this era, struggling with oil stains has become inevitable. Follow suit as you will be enlightened on various materials to remove the stain.

Some materials are needed to remove oil stains, such as baking soda, laundry detergent, dish soap, sea salt, old toothbrush, white vinegar, or even hot or warm water.

Baking soda absorbs oil, reducing excess oil from fabric which is a good material for removing oil stains from certain fabrics, i.e., wool clothes. On the other hand, chalk works faster on lightly stained clothes.

Detergent and liquid dish soap work well on lightly oil-stained clothes when finely and correctly applied. However, some clothes need not be placed on a dryer; removing oil stains with liquid dish soap will be challenging, especially excessive cooking oil-stained fabrics.

BABY POWDER

You’re on a dinner date with a friend and suddenly got oil stains on your blazer? All you need do is excuse yourself to the restroom with a baby powder and paper towel neatly held in your hands. This works faster for emergency cases. At least to an extent, it reduces the visibility of stain from your blouse, making you look as natural and neat as ever.

HOME REMEDY TO REMOVE OIL STAINS USING BABY POWDER

  • Press the paper towel on the stained clothe without rubbing the affected area.
  • After this, neatly cover the stained area with the powder to absorb the oil, and then remove the powder with your key. The powder will mitigate the stain.
  • Leave the powder on the stained fabric for a few hours and later remove it with a spoon or spatula.

To completely remove the oil stains from clothes, put a few drops of liquid dish soap on the affected area.

  • Apply a wet toothbrush on it, and in a circular motion, rub gently.
  • After a while, put the garment in a washing machine and let it air dry.
  • Sea salt is also recommended instead of a powder because it washes off faster than powder.

It becomes hard to remove an oil stain or to remove grease stain from clothing that wasn’t taken care of immediately it gets stained. Therefore if you’re too busy to get off oil stain from your clothes or due to some circumstances, you won’t be able to get it off immediately. You need to rinse and soak the clothes in neat salty water till you can get the stain treated off them. Or, as a teacher in the nursery, one of the kids gets an oil stain. You don’t have to wait till his mother comes to pick him up before the stain is removed; no, follow the above step to save the clothing from the oily stain. Stain must be washed before being put through the washing process. So do not wash the clothes until you have time to remove stains out of clothes.

BAKING SODA

For stubborn stain, put hot water on it and get it soaked with baking soda or vinegar afterward; wash clothes with laundry detergent. Old oil stains also need baking soda treatment after the affected spot has been soaked. Liquid dish soap and baking soda are always good for pre-treating oil-stained garments first because they help loosen the stain well.

Oil stains must be set before being put into the drying machine because high heat on oil-stained garments before stain removal causes oil to be set, making it difficult to remove quickly. Next to your baking soda, your laundry detergent is the key to removing oil stains.

STEPS TO TAKE USING BAKING POWDER REMEDY

First, blot the stain from the garment with an absorbent cloth or a paper towel. Do not rub the affected area before blotting the stain out first.

The next step to take in baking soda removal of oil after the first step of blotting with a paper towel is to sprinkle baking soda into the stained part and leave it for a while without rubbing the area immediately; allow the baking soda to absorb the stain well.

Next is to leave it for about 30 minutes or an hour, depending on the size of the stain.

Afterward, rub the baking soda into the affected area with an old toothbrush. You can add more baking powder and scrape the left baking soda away later.

The oil is fully sucked up when the baking soda stops turning brown so before then, keep rubbing with the toothbrush. But not roughly so as not to damage your fabric.

With your finger, mix a small amount of dish soap with the remaining baking soda on top of your fabric before finally washing in the machine.

Lastly, with warm or hot water, wash your clothes, but note that not all clothes allow for hot water. Check the clothes label to know which one can be washed with hot water. After this process and the oil stains are still found on your clothes, follow the baking soda method of oil stain removal.

OXYGEN BLEACH

This is recommended for both fresh stain and set-in oil stains. It works well.

  • Damp the garment by rinsing it first.
  • Soak it with oxygen bleach for about an hour.
  • Follow the care label guide on the clothes to Know which warm temperature to wash them with using your detergent.
  • Check if the motor oil stain is gone and rinse afterward to air dry it.

VINEGAR AND WATER SOLUTION

This is one of the best stain removers, especially when it comes to even the toughest stains or when you want to remove grease stains and oil stains. It looks great on white stained linen by restoring its original color after an oil stain. Cooking oil stains and freshly oil-stained clothes are also easily removed using vinegar. To achieve this;

  • Blotch out the excess oil with a paper towel to remove as much excess oil from the oil-stained garment.
  • Mix warm water solution with vinegar in one spray bottle and soak to remove oil from clothes.
  • During the soaking process, prepare soapy water and use it to wash the well-soaked clothes to remove stains out of clothes.

CHALK

For fresh and little stains, chalk is recommended. Just so you are in a public restaurant, you can likewise go along with a piece of chalk as a stain remover if you get a drop of oil stain on your clothes.

When this happens, cover the spot with chalk, allow it to absorb the oil, and wash it off immediately after a while of setting.

IN CONCLUSION

Get oil stains from clothes, even the toughest stain, by following stain removers above guidelines. It’ll help you maintain the beauty of your beautiful clothes and give them their spark in summer. Your fabrics need it all.
